I just found out that the United States Army is going to host it's own version of American Idol beginning on August 1st. Evidently, there will be local "tryout competitions" held at 34 command installations around the globe. Evidently, the first qualifying round will be determined by three panel judges. From that point on, every round up to the final will be determined by the actual attendees of the event casting votes (counting for 50% of the vote) and the three judges determing the remaining portion of the vote. The attending audience will be the sole factor in determining who wins the final competition and becomes the first Military Idol. Cash prizes will be granted for the winner of each local competition and finalist.
More details of the competition can be found here.
