PETA Proposes Points to Ponder

Debbie Leahy (director for PETA's captive animals and entertainment issues - nice concise title BTW) spoke to the St. Louis Zoo this week regarding its bear exhibits, requesting that the Zoo phase them out. All this fuss, only after a sun bear attacked a keeper earlier this week - who received bites and scratches on his arms and legs.

As quoted from this article:
"PETA says such goals (the zoo's) don't justify keeping animals in agonizing boredom. Leahy said the group would rather see some animals, like bears, go extinct than for them to live in captivity."

Only 800 of this species remain in the wild and PETA doesn't care. How is that ethical?

It just goes to show that the organization (PETA) is a bunch of crazy people not really pursuing any goal that is worthwhile. I love the idea of PETA, and I am glad no animals were harmed during the making of my favorite film, but I'd rather have an animal in an educational setting (zoo) than have to look at a picture and read about it in a book because it is extinct.

PETA is an organization that only flexes its "muscle" when it sees a chance for free publicity through a soundbite or article. If they are so concerned about the treatment of animals, then they should save all the expense of their ridiculous ads and the cost of lawyers (as a result of their destructive, disruptive forms of protest) and buy a large plot of land where all their sacred animals can live in peace and contentment. But then again, they'd probably kick a hawk out of the program after it swooped down and snatched a field mouse in it's talons for dinner.

Truly, an unbelievable organization...
